What started out as a project to help violin students practise for their music exams, evolved into a recording project and subsequently has received a SAMA Nomination (South African Music Award). So delighted to find that my Classical album ‘Vignettes for Violin’ released in 2019 has been nominated for an award under the Classical Music category.

The #SAMA26 awards will be held virtually mymuze.com, and Mzansi Magic, 3-7 August @ 9:30pm to catch the winners and all the industry buzz!

Special thanks goes to Rory Gaddin who engineered the recording, piano whizz Ashlea Martin who accompanied me on all the pieces and master of mastering Keith Forsythe who added the finishing touches to the album.

Some Old Folk Tunes

In putting together some teaching material, I came across an old Sea Shanty called The Leaving of Liverpool. It is a song I had played years ago with a folk band and decided to look more into it’s roots. This song dates from around the 1880s if not earlier during the Gold Rush days. It was sung as an off-watch song or “forebitter,” rather than a sea shanty. A lovely insight to the role music and songs can play in everyday life, whether you find yourself on a ship, a plane or even just at home.

Elegant Aerial Violin for Christian Dior Store Opening

The opening of the Christian Dior Store in Menlyn caused quite a stir and had shoppers stopping in their tracks, phone cameras in hand. Beautiful cosmetics, personalised engravings of perfume bottles and and a larger than life violinist welcoming guest into the store.

My team and I had to figure out a way of providing the ‘Ethaerial Violin’ act, but due to height restrictions, without any rigging. It was a good challenge and we’re thrilled to be able to present a ground based, low-tech version of Ethaerial Violin. If you are looking for something that makes a larger than life impact, but is elegant and engaging, get in touch!

With Women’s Day falling in August in South Africa, the month takes on a feminine theme. PSG Wealth hosted a women’s month financial road show for their female clients. The evening highlighted the role women can play in shaping their financial futures. I had my note book ready and learnt a few things whilst performing at these events!

At a recent public performance in the new Loftus Park centre a little boy drew me this picture on the back of a menu and rather shyly handed it over.

It is so lovely to play at venues where children get to hear the violin performed. To see the look of surprise and amazement on their faces it truly special.

A translation of the text reads ‘You play beautiful violin
