Dear Kristel
You are one of a kind. Thank-you for everything, my friends and family can’t stop talking about you. You made matrimonial event so special and I am thankful for that.

-Bride July 2017

There is a stark beauty to a winter wedding. Crisp blue skies and warm oranges and reds gave warmth and colour to this wedding event at Midrand Conference Centre. This was a wedding with a difference, as the couple had already tied the knot in a court wedding 20 years ago, they felt their 20th anniversary would be the wedding ceremony they could not afford when they were younger. It was a wonderful day and brides are beautiful at any age.

As delicious coffee aromas hung thick in the air at Urban Grind Coffee Roastery in Parkhurst, a small film crew headed by passionate wildlife videographer Paul Mills, started setting up camera angles. The story for the shoot was to create a typical morning on-the-go scenario of a woman drinking a cappuccino.

The punchline of the shoot is that in the time it takes to drink a cuppa, an elephant has been shot. Paul, who directed and scripted the shoot is making the hard-hitting scene with the aim of shocking everyday people out of complacency. To preserve the future of wildlife for our children and their children’s children, it is important to act now.

It was fun to shoot the scenes drinking coffee, which is a pastime I enjoy, but to drink up for a good cause was even better.

A Musical Journey Around the World

As a sort of musical tour-guide for an event themed “Around the World in 80 Minutes” at the Hyatt, Dar-Es-Salaam, my brief was to perform a repertoire of songs that would take the audience on a journey around the world.

The guest list included dignitaries and business leaders from across the globe so finding repertoire that would be relevant was a bit challenging!

I meandered through some Western Classical to American Jazz and blues, to some Spanish rhythms and Jamaican reggae to finally round off the journey theme with a laser violin performance of the theme song to “Caravans “.

On Wednesday, an otherwise uneventful and unlit section of Rivonia Road was punctuated by the glimmer of white lights illuminating a muscular line of Aston Martin roadsters on the showroom floor of Aston Martin Sandton. From the sleek silver Vanquish to the red-trimmed black Vantage, these cars look like they’re ready to spring into action even when in repose. Playing classical violin against this backdrop made for an interesting juxtaposition – elegance meets power.

Sharply-dressed Sandton businessmen congregated on the floor of the dealership, displaying their sartorial savoir-faire whilst engaging in lively discussions about the evening’s event. The reason for this gathering? To witness the unveiling of Roi Kaskara’s new collection of bespoke suit designs. Roi Kaskara is the go-to tailor for many of the city’s high-flyers – known for their meticulous attention to detail and finely-crafted menswear.
